Description
America is a GREAT country and it is the best country on earth. However, it is not a perfect place. Nothing that we strive for worth having happens easily or without time, effort, and sacrifice. Frederick Douglass said “Power concedes nothing without demand. It never has and it never will.” In time and in all efforts, we must continuously strive to become that diverse, inclusive, more perfect union. And, I am reminded of a quote by two famous consummate transitioners that sum it all up. The first was made famous by Dr. Martin Luther King, who said “We ain’t what we ought to be and we ain’t what we want to be and we ain’t what we’re going to be. But thank God, we ain’t what we was.”
The second was by President John F. Kennedy who inspired and challenged a country in his inaugural address to… “ ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” If you want America to be the best and stay the best, each American must give their best every day of their lives. Your success may depend upon understanding that your reciprocity in life hinges upon giving and selfless sacrifice and not always taking without applying effort and the expectation of entitlement. All Americans should find a way to give back to their country. America does not owe you anything; and, it is a privilege to be an AMERICAN.
